The benefits of YOGA (real or imagined)…

The benefits of YOGA (real or imagined)…

I have 1 yoga class under my belt and already I feel peaccceeee. There were a few awkward moments; mainly because I have poor hand–eye coordination and my stomach decided to talk to the class. (“Feed me Glo-Go”) But after fighting off the hungry pangs, I got my Savasana on. Practicing yoga quickly makes you realize that:

  • Your feet are the most neglected part of your body. Pedicures should be mandatory for all sexes.
  • If you can’t touch your toes something is probably wrong with you. You (that is…me) most likely failed gym class.
  • By the time you’re 25 you should know your left from your right. It’s downright embarrassing.

Here are the benefits of YOGA (real or imagined) according to Glory:

  1. Yoga isn’t competitive like traditional sports, so even if you can’t touch your toes it’s okay. Everyone’s a winner.
  2. Yoga can be done by anyone at any age or stage of fitness. Baby yoga is trending and seniors citizens are living forever…we can all namaste together.
  3. Yoga clears the mind of cluttered thoughts, that one night stand doesn’t seem so awful after a few deep breathes. Afterwards, you’re mentally refreshed and ready to face another blackout.

I’m excited for next Tuesday. (Shameless plug: It’s free and every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.) The library was like my own peaceful oasis. When I’m not staring at my non-pedicured toes, I’m developing a sense of relaxation & inward awareness. After my class I had an overwhelming sense of clam…and then I was craving cheese. And then I started thinking about burritos, which led me to Chipotle.  I ate my burrito quickly with vigor. And I was full of guacamole and serenity.  Peace I tell you.

Plus, I feel like yoga is a lot like sex. Awkward on the first try but after constant repetition you absolutely love it.

Peace be with you,

Glo

p.s. - I’ve decided ALL libraries should offer free yoga. They offer free books & DVDs -- it feels like the next logical step. I’m debating on writing a letter.
